Andrew Koenig dies - 2/25/2010
When I first read online about the disappearance of Boner a few days ago it didn't seem too important to me. Boner was the
nickname of Richard Stabone, who was best friends with Kirk Cameron's character Mike Seaver on the 1980's TV series Growing Pains. I
never liked the series, but I knew who the characters were.
As I read more about the search I quickly learned that Andrew was the son of Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original Star
Trek TV series and seven Star Trek feature films. Ahh, Star Trek... now I became more interested. I went on and searched the net
to find out that Andrew was born just five days before me.
The Koenig family traveled to Vancouver to join the search. Walter Koenig made appearances on TV asking for people's help in finding
his son. When he spoke of his son's depression I felt for him. As someone who has dealt with depression myself, my heart went
out to him and his family.
Now, tonight after disappearing for about ten days, the story has come out in the past few hours that his body has been found in a park in
Vancouver. Walter Koenig stated that his son had taken his own life. My heart is breaking.
Too often people don't take depression seriously. If you suffer from depression ask for help. If you know someone with
depression extend a helping hand.
