Cedar Point and Siren's Curse - 8/30/2025

With a hotel room booked for last and tonight, today's plan at Cedar Point was to take in a full day at the park.  I expected there would be a large crowd at the park during this holiday weekend, but since I have the entire day I could take in each experience at my leisure one at a time and not put any pressure on myself.  And today's weather was expected to be great, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures.

My day started with breakfast at the hotel where I had to navigate my way through with the entire Kenyon College Ladies Volleyball team.  Early entry to Cedar Point began at 9:00, so I was parked and joined the line at about 8:45.  Right at 9:00 the Star-Spangled Banner was played.  As the crowd faced the American flag and the song came to its conclusion, GateKeeper passed over the park's main entry.  I wondered if this was a planned "flyover" or simply a coincidence of morning testing for the coaster.  I then passed though the gates and walked down the midway occasionally looking to see if GateKeeper was still testing.  And it was not.  So the flyover must have been planned all along.

I decided to spend the first part of my day only riding coasters with a vertical or beyond vertical drop.  Up first was Siren's Curse.  I headed there directly and only had to wait 25 minutes to ride.  This was my first ride ever on this new coaster and I was able to get row 11 of 12.

This ride was amazing.  It exceeded all of my expectations.  I'll definitely ride this again today and really think about how well I want to judge this coaster.  At the very least, I'll say now that this is a very re-rideable coaster.

There was still time left in early entry before the general public were to enter the park, so I made my way to Top Thrill 2.  This turned out to be an hour and a half wait.  TT2 is such an adrenaline rush.

For my third vertical drop of the morning I walked to the back of the park and Steel Vengeance.  The 30 minute wait might have been the shortest line I've ever experienced for this coaster.  Perhaps it is because so many people were still in the lines for Millenium Force, TT2 and Siren's Curse.

Maverick, with its beyond vertical drop was next.  Then I ate lunch at The Farmhouse Kitchen and Grill.  I had a great meal, with herb roasted chicken drumsticks, smashed baked potatoes and a biscuit.  Undoubtedly one of the best amusement park meals I've had.

I rode the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad from Frontier Town to the main midway for a lap on Valravn.  At this point it was about 3:30 and I had now conquered the park's five vertical or beyond vertical drop roller roasters.

I continued my afternoon and even at Cedar Point with coaster rides on Millenium Force, Rougarou, a second lap on Siren's Curse (row 9), GateKeeper and Raptor.  After a quick walk to my car to put on a hoodie as the sun was setting, I then got on Rougarou and my third lap of the day on Siren's Curse.  This time I was in the front row.

Between 9:00 and 9:30 I was trying to make my plans to get my final ride or two as the park was scheduled to close at 10:00.  I headed towards Millenium Force hoping to get a quick lap and then get in line for another coaster just before 10:00.  As I approached the entrance I saw people leaving the line.  I asked one of them if Millenium Force was close and they said yes.  I checked the wait times on the phone app.  The wait time for all of the big coasters were each an hour or more, so I knew I couldn't get two rides and I would have to settle on just one.  Well, the choice was easy for me.  Siren's Curse has been such a fun ride throughout today, I would finish my evening there.  I was in line at about 9:45.  The wait time was over an hour.  While I was in line I got to talking with a father and his nine-year-old daughter.  This was their first time on the coaster.  When we arrived on the loading platform I was assigned the front row.  But since this was their first time, I offered to trade rows with them.  I was happy to see them enjoy the ride as much as I did.  As I exited the station I saw that the train I had ridden was the second to last train of the evening.  It was 11:09 and the midways were nearly empty.

The weather forecast for today called for clear skies and temperatures in the low 70s.  While the skies were indeed clear all day, the temperature started in the low 60s when the park opened, then rose to just 65 through the afternoon.  In spite of this it felt much warmer, especially in the sun.  I would have guessed it was in the 70s.  After sunset the temperature only dropped to 62 by closing time.  Even then I never felt cold or chilly at any time.  This was really perfect weather all day long for a visit to Cedar Point.

I walked along the quiet midway towards the park gates along with the last few park guests and a few park employees with my head was full of thoughts about Siren's Curse.  The theming through the queue is pretty much what I have come to expect from Cedar Point.  Often rides have ambient sounds piped in while you are in line waiting.  For this coaster I noticed an improvement.  Various sections of the line have different soundtracks playing.  For example, one section has a radio station playing with the DJ metioning the fictional Erie Fraight Company.  Creaking sounds in another area.  The sounds of seagulls and the occasional bell from a navigation bouy.  And in another section you can hear the soft melody of the sirens.  Once on the ride I instantly notice the comfortable seats and restraints.  I love that there are no seatbelts.  As the coaster began its climb I began to hear the delicate, ethereal, and eerie call of the siren through the train's onboard audio system.  Near the crest of the lift the siren's message had become clear.  Moving onto the tilt track the soundtrack continued to grow louder.  Then the coaster slowly tiled into the drop position, the tension rising and the siren's song building to a chilling climax.  Finally, the drop.  In that moment of freefall the audio switches to a heavy metal grunge-style score.  During the ride itself the soundtrack provides a fast-paced and intense audio experience that enhances the coaster's theming and thrilling elements.  Twists and turns.  Two inversions.  Moments of high G-forces and also pops of airtime.  With so many intense elements packed into this relatively compact layout the coaster is very smooth.  The quick changes in direction are fierce, yet I never felt beaten up or needed to ride defensively.  This is clearly the best Vekoma roller coaster I have ever been on.  Siren's Curse is unquestionably going into my top ten list of best coasters.  But I'm still not sure exactly how high it will rank.

This was certainly one of the best days at Cedar Point ever.  The park was open for twelve hours and I was there for 14 and a half hours.  My first wait for Siren's Curse was just 25 minutes.  While the other three laps I waited for well over an hour for each.  So I ended up spending about four and a half hours today just waiting in line for this single roller coaster.  This goes to show you how much I enjoyed my day.
