The Play That Goes Wrong - 9/9/2022
Yesterday I made the drive from Ohio to Rockville. And then this morning Sarah and I rode Amtrak's Northeast Regional
train from Union Station in Washington to the Moynihan Train Hall in Manhattan to begin our weekend Broadway tour.
As soon as we arrived in NYC, Sarah had to attend an online meeting. We walked a couple blocks from the train station
and found a coffee shop where she could work. And then I headed it off for a little sightseeing on my own. I headed
west to Hudson Yards to check out Vessel.

This public structure and visitor attraction opened in 2019. The copper-clad structure is 150 feet tall, the main feature
of the 5-acre Hudson Yards Public Square and in one sense, can be thought of as simply an observation platform. But it is
much more than that.
Nearby was the Spur. This is a small area off of the High Line. Back in 2017 when we walked the entire length of the
Highline, it was one little aspect of the urban park that we missed. This old section of railroad track is unique, that it
once led directly into the postal service building. The rail line has been truncated but you can still see the replacement
architecture on the building.

I met back up with Sarah at the conclusion of her meeting and we headed to our hotel together. We hopped on the subway
and headed to Queens. Sarah made the brilliant choice of booking our hotel in the borough, which saved us several
bucks. It's still quite convenient as it is only the second subway stop into Queens.
Sarah stayed at the hotel while I made a side trip of my own to Queensbridge Park. It was about a 20 minute walk and
just under a mile from the hotel. On the banks of the East River I was able to get views of Roosevelt Island, Midtown
Manhattan and the Queensboro Bridge.

I returned to the hotel where Sarah had picked a place for us to have dinner. Arepas Cafe was just a ten minute walk
to 36th Avenue in Long Island City. And this Venezuelan restaurant turned out to be excellent.
After dinner we headed into Manhattan as the sun was setting. We passed through Times Square where we saw tribute to
Queen Elizabeth II on the video screens, who had just passed away the day before.
When we were planning this trip, Sarah asked for my suggestions and I picked The Play That Goes Wrong. We
walked to New World Stages at West 50th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. We had front row seats. And as the
play began, one of the actors interacted directly with Sarah. So it's official, Sarah has made her debut in a Tony
award winning play. This is a play within a play where anything and everthing, well... goes wrong. If you have
ever seen Noises Off, you might have a little idea of what I'm talking about. This is the funniest play I have ever
seen.

Today was just the beginning. We have two more days to explore NYC and take in more Broadway shows.
