Man of Steel - 6/15/2013
Tonight Sarah and I went to Movies 10 in Nelsonivlle to see Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. It is the reboot
of the Superman franchise.
The story spends more time on Krypton than any of the previous Superman films. It shows more of the politics surrounding the events
prior to its doom. This backstory between Zod, played by Michael Shannon, and Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe, took time to develop.
Kevin Costner plays Clark Kent's father. It is a small role, but the performance and storyline is amazing. It was my favorite
part of the film.
The end of the film was disappointing. It ended up being a visual blur. CGI in a blender. Just because the filmmakers have
the visual graphic capabilities to show an entire city being destroyed with a multitude of fine details and photorealism doesn't mean the
audience needs to see it.
I totally didn't buy into the idea that Superman, regardless of how super he really is, could defeat an army of equally super men.
Superman simply kills the leader and the rest just give up? Some people have a problem with Superman killing a person. He's never done
that on film before. I'm actually ok with that one detail. Besides, how many thousands of innocent civilians were killed while
Superman and Zod knocked down all those skyscrapers during their fist fight?
Critics were hard on the 2006 reboot Superman Returns, but I actually think it's a better film and I could watch it again and
again.
Man of Steel is a good movie. If you have time, check it out.
