Black Swan - 1/30/2011
Tonight I met Alex at Movies 10 to watch Black Swan. This film starred Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and
Vincent Cassel.
Portman plays the part of a ballet dance that gets the lead in "Swan Lake" and things get weird. Going into the theater I didn't know a
thing about the story other than it was about ballet dancers. I figured it would be about the power struggle between dancers who are
bitches to each other. Yeah, there is some of that. But there's so much more.
The film is surprisingly different in the best way. The story goes in direction that makes you keep watching.
At first, it feels like a low budget movie with its hand-held camera shots and slightly grainy film stock. But the film makes up for that in
special effects. That's all I'm going to say about that.
If you are worried that you wouldn't like this movie because you don't like ballet or know anything about it, don't worry; it's not about
the technical aspect of the dance. Sure, there's dancing. But the film carries you right through it.
There has been a lot of buzz about Natalie Portman possibly winning an Oscar. Well, she is in every scene and does a great job
throughout the movie. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she does win.
This is a great movie. Go see it for yourself.
You may never clip your nails again.
