Closing day at Cedar Point - 11/1/2009

Today's weather at Cedar Point was much better than yesterday's.  There was just a light wind and mostly sunny.

Today was the final day of operations for Demon Drop before it leaves Cedar Point for it's new home in sunny California at Knott's Berry Farm.  I got my final ride on Demon Drop early in the morning.  It was an added bonus to my ride that I was riding with a young girl on her first ride on Demon Drop.  She was really scared as we were being banged around at the top of the ride and pushed to the outside of the tower.  I remember my first ride back when the ride first opened in 1983.  I remember the line was about an hour and a half long.  And I spent almost all of that time watching the ride and counting the seconds it would hang at the top before the big drop.  Once I was on the ride I was surprised by how fast the ride up the tower was.  I hadn't really thought about how fast the ride up might be.  I was expecting a normal elevator ride.  This was much faster.  Once at the top and waiting to be dropped I was so excited and scared that I counted way too fast to predict the drop.  I thought something might be wrong.  But before I could realize that I had counted too fast the ride dropped, scaring the crap out of me.  Great memories.

While at Cedar Point I was able to get laps on, Disaster Transport, Corkscrew, Gemini, Magnum XL-200, Wicked Twister, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Raptor and Top Thrill Dragster.  My last coaster ride for 2009 was on Millennium Force.

This was the first time I've ever been to Cedar Point on closing day.

It will be a long winter, and I am already looking forward to more rides in 2010 and Shoot the Rapids.
