Slumdog Millionaire - 2/3/2009
My friend Tommy and I went to Movies 10 to see Slumdog Millionaire. This love-story starring newcomer Dev Patel has been catching
quite the buzz since its limited release in November. Now I now finally have a chance to see it now that it is playing locally.
The story is told in flashbacks and covers most of the main character's life. While covering such a long period of time and using 3 sets
of actors to show the principal characters growing from children to young adults, the film moves at a good pace. The music choices and some
unusual camera angles keep your interest and keeps the story moving along. The film has a great climax and fantastic ending. The
closing credits include a music video/dance sequence that seems kind of random.
The movie shows the full spectrum of India's socio-economic polarization. It especially presents the sad conditions of the massive
slums.
Slumdog Millionaire is a great film. Go see it.
Will it win the Oscar for best picture? Does it deserve to win? I don't think so, in either case.
