Ohio Renaissance Festival - 9/7/2024
Today Shawn, Brian, and I headed to the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg. This was Shawn and Brian's idea, and I
wasn't sure what to expect.
Even a mile from reaching the exit off of Interstate 71, traffic began backing up. There was traffic all the way through
the exit and along state road for several miles leading up to the entrance to the festival site. Even with the high volume
of traffic, the workers managed to keep the flow of cars moving at a decent pace. There was a massive field for parking and
a heavy crowd lined up to get into the festival grounds.
Once we were inside the main gate, just before 11:30, we simply turned to the left and began checking out all of the shops,
food stands, and entertainment options. Not knowing what to expect I was surprised how many entertainment options there
were. I looked at the schedule and had a quick glance I could see that there were over 20 stages for performers. The
entertainment is included with the price of admission, although the performers do ask for tips.
I saw some signs for the Mud Show which piqued my curiosity. The schedule showed that at the Theater in the Ground there
are four performances during the day, each one telling a different story with a muddy and comical twist.
The performance we saw was the story of Dante, who had to go through three tribulations in Hades to earn the love he
desired. The show felt very PG-13 at times and was quite funny.
There was a wide range of food and drink available. Beverages from teas, coffees, soft drinks, cider, beer, and
ales. The array of food available range from turkey legs, brats and other meats to crepes, donuts, fruit, vegetables and Dole
whip, including Dole whip served in a pineapple.
The merchandise that was available for sale was impressive. From handcrafted goods to 3-D printed items. Toy swords
and weapons for children up to real axes and authentic swords. They were clothing, leather goods, books, toys, costumes,
sculpture, games, and various artwork.
There was one event that we missed, and I regret not being able to see, and that was jousting. There were also several
areas of the festival grounds that we were not able to see due to time. It was a great time exploring this new adventure
for me.
We eventually left the festival just past 5:00 after a lot of walking and great lively shows, tantalizing food & drink, and
unique shopping. And I'm excited to come back and see more on my next visit.
