A Casual Day at Kennywood - 4/29/2023
While visiting Shawn and Brian, in Pittsburgh, today's plans fell through, so we made the last-minute decision to
go to Kennywood. It was about 2 o'clock when we arrived at the park.
The weather was cloudy with a chance of rain, which made for a very light crowd. All of the roller coasters
were operating with a single train each and most had about a 10-15 minute wait time.
The first ride of the day was Old Mill. The dark ride has been reverted back to its original old west theme
from Garfield's Nightmare which was the theming during my previous visits.
Throughout the day it was just a casual time in the park, just walking from ride to ride, no need to rush at
all. In addition to the coasters, we also rode Whip, Merry-Go-Round, Noah's Ark and Kangaroo.
The longest line of the day was for Steel Curtain, which turned out to be 30-40 minutes. This is the
park's newest coaster, opening in 2019. At 220 feet tall, this hyper-coaster by S&S Sansei Technologies has
countless inversions. Seriously, is it 8 or 9 inversions? The coaster geeks can't decide. Either
way it's the most in the United States. For such a large coaster it fits into a very compact space with all
of the twists, turns and inversions. And it accomplishes this with a smooth layout and no jerky or
uncomfortable transitions.

Themed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' nickname for their defensive line during the 1970s that helped win the team
four Super Bowls in that decade. This theme goes as far as to include the ride closure announcement, "There's
been an official timeout called on the field..."
By the end of the day we had ridden all the coasters but Exterminator which was closed. We were at Kennywood
for about five hours and it felt like we had a complete visit. We left just before the park closed at
7:00. A great day of casually riding and sightseeing under the cloudy skies.
