Big Boy UP #4014, Fostoria, Ohio - 6/6/2026

Today I rode with Crissy, Emma and Jake to the Fostoria Iron Triangle Railpark in Fostoria, Ohio to see the whistle stop of the Union Pacific #4014 Big Boy.  We arrived in Fostoria and slowly made our way through the heavy traffic to luckily find a parking spot along the street and just around the corner from the railpark.  We took our chairs, cooler and cameras to the park and staked our claim on a plot of grass.  It was about 12:30 and we had an hour and a half until the scheduled 2:00 arrival of the Big Boy.

The train arrived about twenty minutes late to the delight of the large crowd at the park and the surrounding streets.  For the

next fifteen minutes we all quickly took as many photos as we could, moving to different positions and maneuvering through the crowd.

Then the time came for another whistle from the train and it began to roll down the tracks to its next destination.

This stop was part of the Union Pacific's Big Boy #4014, journey to the East Coast this summer for the first time as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.  The tour includes a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia, major display events in eight cities and more than 50 whistle-stops in 10 states, including stops for the first time in Indiana, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania.

#4014 is a preserved 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad as part of its heritage fleet.  Built in November 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in Schenectady, New York.  The locomotive was retired from revenue service on December 7, 1961.  In May 2019, it moved under its own power after sitting dormant for almost six decades, becoming the world's largest operational steam locomotive and the only operating Big Boy locomotive of the eight that remain in existence.
