Hadestown - 5/17/2026

Sarah and I attended the matinee performance of Hadestown at the Ohio Theatre in downtown Columbus this afternoon.

Hadestown is a modern take on a Greek tragedy.  It weaves together the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone.  It follows a naive musician trying to rescue his lover from an oppressive, industrialized underworld.

Spoiler alert.  I had assumed that being a modern adaptation, the ending might be more uplifting.  But no, this truly is a Greek tragedy.  But wait, there's more.  Despite a tragic ending, the musical presents itself as an eternal, repeating cycle meant to inspire hope in the audience.
