Athens County Children's Services Mural - 6/7/2024
This morning at 10:00, I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication for the Athens County Children Services Mural
on State Street in Athens.
Speakers included officials from children services, ODOT, the city of Athens and the state. Also, in attendance were
officials from Athens County and a representative from Sherwin-Williams.
The mural was painted by Mandi "Miss Birdy" Casky, of Columbus with the project beginning on May 7, National Mural Day. It
was expected to take about five weeks to complete.
The building in the middle is the old children's home that was located at the space before US Route 33 was constructed.
Five pinwheels are represented in the mural. Each one was designed by a student at one of the county's five high schools
with Miss Birdy choosing winning designs.
At this morning's ceremony the five students were given the opportunity to sign the mural.
This is a great addition to our community and I’m glad I took the chance to be a small part of the ribbon-cutting.
