Political allegiances and opinions
What is it that I believe in? Good Question.
Generally, I am liberal on social issues and conservative on fiscal issues. Republicans have done a very good job of making
people think liberal is a bad word. It is just a label simply meaning the opposite of conservative. People shouldn't
be afraid of using the word liberal any more than a person using the word conservative.
I don't believe government's job is to fix society's problems. Government shouldn't be a babysitter. Businesses and citizens
are responsible for there own actions.
Uncle Sam has to balance the budget and pay down the national debt. I hate tax and spend ideology. I think our income
tax system is basically fair (the more you make, the more you pay). This is true, despite what the Democrats would like you to
believe. The current system is complex, complicated and confusing. Do I believe in a flat tax? Maybe. Instead
of reinventing the wheel, why not simplify our current system. Eliminate the maze of credits and deductions and reduce the tax rates
equally.
My presidential voting record
1988 - George H.W. Bush
1992 - Bill Clinton
1996 - Bill Clinton
2000 - George W. Bush
2004 - John Kerry
2008 - Barack Obama
I voted for Bush in '88 but not in '92, WTF?
During the recession of 1991 the number of people who had used all of their 26 weeks of unemployment compensation reached an
all-time high. The highest since the government began tracking this statistic in 1955. Congress passes legislation to
extend these benefits. Bush vetoed the measure, claming that it was not an "emergency". How is it not an
emergency? It is the worst it has been since 1955. What rock is it that Bush was living under? Of course Bush
and all of his colleagues, advisors and friends had jobs.
One day Bush goes shopping at JCPenney (socks, if I remember correctly). The news shows him completely amazed by the
barcode reader. Apparently, he had never seen one before. He was dumb-founded, transfixed, in awe of it.
Bush was just out of touch with America.
I voted for W. in '00 but not in '04, What's up with that?
Bush lied. And lots of people died (and are still dying). It's as simple as that. Read more about it in
my 9/8/2007 blog.
